I found this blog post on an old blog that I haven't used in a while and I thought this would be a great way to create a blog celebrating friends. This blog was from November 2008, when Gillian was making her way to Texas after packing up and leaving her home in Eugene, Oregon.
Giggs is on her way to me. She is driving back to Texas from Oregon after an 18 month adventure. Right now, she is in Susanville, California, in a motel with Baxter. She's wearing the sweatshirt I gave her years ago and through all the wear and tear, the longhorn emblem still shows.
She began her journey in Eugene this morning at around 8. I can't imagine how it felt to leave a place she ran to in a time of need. All the memories she has created, the bonds she has formed, the roads she has crossed--that takes a special kind of woman.
She sent a text at around noon her time: "I'm on top of a mountain! Driving through a cloud. Snow on the side of the road. 4k feet up. Leaving Oregon and in Cali now!"
She will have to fill you in on the trip when she gets here, but I know she is having a bittersweet drive with her furry bundle of joy. Only 29 hours to go and she still has four Red Bulls left. I expect her here on Sunday night, but I know how tiring driving can be.
The thing I love about her is her sense of flow. She has always gone where life takes her, and I mean that as un-cliche as possible. She is not afraid to move, to start over, to sell her stuff, to unravel, to befriend the unfriendly. She is my light in darkness and Austin will, once again, be a bright spot for me...
