Polka Dots Are Back, Baby!

Mom had a two-week vacation and she honored me by spending one week of it with us in Austin. A while ago, maybe a year, I wanted her to show me how to sew, so we bought some fabric and a pattern for a project: my own polka dot skirt.

Needless to say, we ran out of energy for that idea at the time and when Mom came to visit last week, she brought the skirt to sew herself, mainly because I had to work all week to prepare for the new school year.

While I was away, she laid out the pattern, and the skirt was no longer just a thought.

She's good at this! She used to make me and Jackie clothes all the time when we were little and as we watched her, we would rearrange the stick pins in her pin cushion, as if we were doing her a favor...

The week was busy and she didn't get to finish, so she took it back home and yesterday, I opened the finished product, which she mailed to me.

I absolutely love it and can't wait to wear it to school. She even put a beautiful trim at the bottom with dainty little buttons.

And she put her label on it, too: Made especially for you by Mary.

She stayed with us for a whole week and we gave her the guest room that has its own bathroom. I thought it was sweet how she laid out all of her products, as if she were moving in! Our house was her little bed and breakfast for the week.

We had a great time and I hope to see her again really soon.
