So here's what I got her, minus the glasses.
On Saturday, we feasted on a dinner to celebrate family. But first we had to go shopping, so we drove to the HEB off Grand Parkway and Hwy. 59. What a mess! I think everybody and their moms were there. Oh, wait...
So, we get the loot and then we boot. On the way home, we were driving on Hwy. 36, well, I was driving, and of course I am following the speed limit (70 mph), and I look into the rearview mirror and a huge truck comes barreling down on my mom's car. In the country, it is a sign of courtesy to move your law-abiding butt over to the shoulder to let the law-breakers pass. I don't do it. Dad told me long ago that I could get a nail doing that, so I don't.
So this guy--he's got some sun glasses on, probably Oakley's--those are big here. They're the sunglasses of country boys. He looks clean shaven, but still like he wouldn't care if his dog pooped in your yard, you know? So, as I am looking in the rearview mirror, mom turns around and he flips her off. I glare at him for driving so close to the car and he flips us off again. What happens to the important rules that you learn in Driver's Ed? FOUR CAR LENGTHS, you meanie!
Then, when it's clear, he passes us as if he had a reason to, other than the fact that he is an impatient person, and flips us off again as we are side by side. Then, he swerves his 4x4 cookie-cutter cowboy-mobile in front of us and you guessed it, flips us off again. :) What? We were pretty baffled. It must take a certain kind of man to act that way.
Enough about that guy! On to the meal and the birthday girl! (The apron she is wearing was her mother's day gift last year...I know, I'm awesome.)
Mom made her legendary broccoli salad.
Harrison cut up the chicken and then made my mom some chicken broth to make her chicken spaghetti with. (She makes that a lot for family functions and it is always a favorite.)
I mashed potatoes and cut up veggies to grill.
We grilled on my dad's charcoal grill, which is awesome.
Everything was so colorful and the plates looked so lovely, you didn't want to eat anything that would mess up the presentation.
We were stuffed and ready for bed to head to Sweeny the next day. The reunion went by in a flash and we were back home before we knew it. I only snagged a couple of pictures and those are in the album. Check it out here:
By the way, I hope Oakley Dude gets a flat soon.

Love your mom's hair!!
