I don't know if it makes sense, but Harrison decided to make tortilla soup on a hot summer day in June. Now, don't get me wrong, I LOVE tortilla soup, but I am not sure that it fits with the season. I find it ironic that Harrison is so very particular when it comes to mixing flavors that supposedly don't go together. I mean, what is wrong with a burrito and pesto pasta? I guess for him, though, the season doesn't matter.
To the point though, this made me think of all of the odd things I used to eat when I was younger. If you don't know me that well, you might read this and form your own opinion about my culinary exposure, but for those of you who know me well, we probably sat together in junior high, taking bets for the grossest food combination show-down. You know, chocolate milk gravy and potatoes? Yum. So anyway, on to the list:
We will start with me:
Sliced or whole pickles with salt sprinkled on top
Raw cookie dough made from scratch just to eat raw
Lemon and lime wedges with salt
Ramen noodles with a slice of American cheese--whatever that is
Macaroni and cheese...with hot dog wieners diced up
Fried Spam
Spaghetti-Os
One evening--I opened a can of cranberry sauce and ate it with a spoon
Pre-mixed cappuccinos from a machine--Don't get me wrong, I am no stuck-up coffee drinker, but it has been years since I have had a syrupy concoction posing as actual coffee.
And the most embarrassing---I tried a dog biscuit once--but only once. It was "peanut butter-flavored."
And Harrison:
Fish sticks
Dinty Moore soup
American cheese--again, whatever that is
Ramen noodles with Vienna sausages cut up
Vienna sausages or any meat in a can, for that matter
Chicken-in-a-biscuit crackers with canned cheese--although it is road trip food, so we still eat it every once in a while
Again, canned cranberry sauce, but Harrison didn't eat it straight from the can like me
There...I feel better. Harrison will never let me live down how uncoordinated I tend to be when eating leftovers, but I really don't have high expectations, like he does, for dinner. With that said, maybe I will put oyster crackers in my soup!
